Crown's Crown is Short a Few Stars

Between traveling to Philly and visiting the newest edition to UES food brothels, Pete Wells had a busy week.  In this week's review, he crowns Crown with one star.

"...Mr. DeLucie, the chef and proprietor, has cheerfully called his cooking here 'comfort food for millionaires.' (And for their pets; the kitchen once prepared a côte de boeuf for a regular’s dog.)"

Park Slope BBQ, Chapter One

Fort Reno Provisions is a new BBQ spot in Park Slope from the team behind Palo Santo.  Although it sounds like there's a lot to complain about, they deserve credit for bringing the first BBQ joint to the neighborhood and putting the BBQ birdy in Park Slope's ear.

Alex Stupak, former pastry chef at WD-50, is opening an Empellon offshoot next week.  Empellon Cocina will be located at 105 First Ave (btwn 6th and 7th) and will open just in time for Valentine's Day. 

Now you can tell your loved one you love them with a mouthful of chicharonnes.

Slow Wine Sold Out

The Slow Food Guide to Italian Wines, the mecca of all Italian wine guides, is holding an even tonight offering the first ever English publication of their book.

Held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18th Street, the sold out event will feature 140 different wines from over 60+ producers.

Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone Took Physics

The duo behind Torrisi and Parm fully understand how momentum works.  After two incredible successes in Manhattan's Little Italy, Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone are looking towards their 3rd lower Manhattan venture. 

Back in November, just around the time Parm was opening, they signed a lease for 181 Thompson Street that once housed the classic Italian fare under the moniker Rocco's Restaurant.  The team faces some negativity for taking over the space that had been Rocco's for 90 years, but like they said in an interview with The New York Observer, "This space was going to be available whether we took it or not."

Al Di La Sibling Bar Corvo to Open Tonight in Prospect Heights

The 14 year veteran of Park Slope that always yields rave reviews is opening and offshoot across town tonight.  Bar Corco, located at 791 Washington Street, will bring casual Italian food to Prospect Heights.

Slow Wine Tasting

This Monday, the 30th, from 6:30 to 9pm, the Metropolitan Pavilion will be hosting a tasting of 140 different wines, all of which are featured in this years first ever English publication.  The Pavilion is at 125 W. 18th Street.  Admission: $42, includes a copy of the guide.

Slow Wine is a branch of the Slow Food movement that started in Piedmont in the 80s.  It is an evaluation of wineries that takes into account key factors such as viticultural practices and sustainability.  The Slow Wine Guide is the closest you can get to walking through Italy's vineyards without buying a flight.
