Wing Week: Part V
We kicked off Wing Week at The Wing Bar. Wogies, Buffalo Boss, and McFadden's followed, and now we're finishing things off back in Brooklyn at one of our favorite wings spots: Bonnie's Grill, aka New York City's gateway to Western New York.
The only thing we ever order here are the wings, but if you have a hanckering for that tender beef sandwich on a salty bun that's soggy with beef jus, Bonnie's has a beef on weck for that. The sandwich, the wings, and a few of the beer options are what give Bonnie's its unique, Buffalo-lean. Grab a seat at the bar when there's a Bills game on and it'll feel like you've been transported to Tonawanda.
No outrageous sauce options here - just mild, medium, hot, and hotter. The wings aren't fancified. They're kept in packs of 10 (small, $8.95, pictured) and fried to order. A bit of science takes place in the frier and the result is an incredibly crisp, crunchy skin that encases some of the most tender, juicy wings around town. The hots possess a cayenne sheen (no relation to Charlie) that will leave your lips numb and face sweaty. Spice lovers will fall in love with the "hotter," but none of the options fall short on flavor. Oh, that Genny Cream Ale in the picture? They were out of Labatt.
