Animal Collective's Avey Tare Breaks Down this Year's Citrus Season (Kind Of)

Pitchfork has a remix from Avey Tare of Animal Collective.  The original song is called "Egyptian Peaches."  Avey's odd, choppy rework is called "Cold Oranges" and features strange samples of some guy talking about growing oranges in Claremont.  Weird.

Attack of the Batali Pang

Num Pang is a Cambodian sandwich shop with Greenwich Village (21 E 12th) and Midtown (140 E 41st) locations.  Today marks the start of the shops "Guest Chefs Give Back" campaign that sets to raise money for the New York City Food Bank and the Cambodian Children's Fund.

Mario Batali is the first featured chef and his "Batali Pang", available starting today, will run for the next month, through March 15th.  The sandwich is one of cotechino, which is a slow cooked Italian sausage, balsamic braised onions, Cacio di Roma cheese, and the rest of the fixens you'd find on a sandwich under the Banh Mi blanket; pickled carrots, cucumber, and cilantro.  It can be yours for $9.75 - 60% of that cost will head to above mentioned charities.

If the the cotechino is anything like the Prosecco braised version Batali's Greenwich Village pizza spot Otto does for New Year's, I'm there.  If it's any different, I'm there.

Pete Wells Awards Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria 3 Stars

Pete Wells heads to Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria for this weeks review and leaves quite happy.  While the 3 stars put the restaurant at the same caliber as Babbo, Craft, Marea, and Gramercy Tavern, it also leaves many a bit concerned.

Fonda Crosses the Border: Opening New Location in the East Village

Fonda is a 3-year-old Mexican restaurant serving some of the better cuisine of its type to Park Slope residence.  Roberto Santibañez will now take that template to the East Village.  Set to open February 21st at 40 Avenue B (btwn 3rd and 4th),  the menu will be geared more towards a late night crowd; heavy on the bar food and Mezcal options.

The East Village is becoming quite the Mexican food mecca.
